Where to Eat
1881 Café is a modern tearoom with a twist on the traditional.
Altered Café offers a contemporary take on the traditional British tearoom, serving a selection of loose leaf teas alongside fresh homemade meals and beautifully handcrafted cakes. The menu boasts an afternoon tea selection, cream teas and cakes alongside hearty breakfasts, stews, vibrant salads and sandwiches.
Their ethos is to focus on quality, local produce, working with artisan producers for the best ingredients. Handcrafted bread is sourced from award-winning bakers. Freshly baked scones straight out of the oven are most enjoyed at 1881 Café.
Guests are greeted with warm and friendly service in a contemporary yet cosy environment. Classical music playing throughout the café creates a relaxing feel for customers to enjoy. During the summer months, you can enjoy your food and drinks picnic-style sitting on the grass directly outside the Cathedral.
Afternoon Tea is served each day, comprised of three tiers stacked high with homemade sandwiches, savouries, miniature cakes and scones served with a pot of loose leaf tea or glass of bubbly. Current favourites include Moroccan chicken with Harissa and olives and a Sicilian lemon and earl grey cake. A great excuse to turn any afternoon into a celebration.
Reservations can be made for parties of six or more. To reserve a table call 0161 832 2220 (ext. 240). The restaurant is child friendly and wheelchair accessible, with accessible bathrooms and baby changing facilities.
