Manchester Cathedral Development Project

Our Vision

The renewal of the Cathedral’s buildings and immediate environment will benefit our local communities, the people of Manchester and its visitors. We will be better able to welcome all people, sustain the Cathedral’s mission.  We shall offer an exciting programme of activities, more accessible heritage, and new learning opportunities.

Manchester Cathedral will play a significant role in the regeneration of the Medieval Quarter, working with Medieval Quarter partners, Manchester City Council and Greater Manchester Combined Authority to develop the area as a vibrant and welcoming destination.

Our vision is to realise the Cathedral’s potential as an emblem of strength and hope to enhance the lives of the people and communities of Manchester and Salford, spiritually, economically, culturally and socially.

In 2016, the Cathedral Chapter established a strategic and business plan called Vision 2026, setting out the current operations and aspirations for the next ten years. Read more about the Cathedral’s targets here.  We continue to update and develop our plans on a regular basis.
