Schedule of Works

he Development Project is more than just the building works. Our vision is to realise the Cathedral’s potential to enhance people’s lives and offer enjoyable and valuable experiences to visitors and worshippers alike. The successful pilot Cathedral Volunteer Programme, founded by the charity Volition Community, assists people who are unemployed to make their way back to work.

Cathedral fundraising and events help to sustain the Cathedral’s musical provision and chorister funding and to safeguard the future of the foundation.

Phase 1

Phase 1 of the Development Project (2010 to 2018) achieved the following:

Phase 2

Phase 2 of the Development Project (2019 onwards) will aim to:

  • remodel and enhance the Cathedral Visitor Centre and increase its capacity;
  • increase the space in the Worthington extension for improved infrastructure, music and worship, and public-facing facilities;
  • improve the south façade landscaping and access and better connect Cathedral and CVC;
  • reshape and develop the West End and the West Door entrance for better access and services, including tower tours;
  • complete the lighting and stone cleaning schemes inside the Cathedral and repair sections of the roof;
  • contribute to the improvement of the public realm and relate the Cathedral more fully to its Medieval Quarter neighbours.
