‘Bringing Communities Together with Hobbies’

Hate crime is defined as any crime targeted at a person because of hostility or prejudice towards that person’s: disability, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation, transgender identity or alternative subculture.

As the Challenging Hate Forum (CHF) enters its tenth year it continues to find creative ways of raising awareness of hate crime and how to tackle it. On Monday 4 February 2019 (2.00pm-4.30pm) the CHF will host another of its popular free events to support of Hate Crime Awareness Week. This year’s event is entitled 'Bringing Communities Together with Hobbies' and there will the opportunity for everyone to try out some fun activities e.g. art, crafts, creative writing or to learn a song with a local choir to perform at the end of the event. The aim is to promote community cohesion amongst the many diverse communities in Greater Manchester by bringing people together to share some fun activities.

There will be special guest speakers and updates on hate crime in Greater Manchester courtesy of Greater Manchester Police. The promotion of the ‘No Bystander Promise' continues: People can sign up at letsendhatecrime.com/promise to the Promise, which reads:

I’m proud that Greater Manchester is a place where everyone is free to be themselves: where no one should face violence, abuse or hatred just because of who they are, who they love, where they’re from, what they look like or what they believe.

challenge their abuser, if it's safe; and

report it.

I make this promise to stand up for a Greater Manchester where we all look out for each other, we all stick up for each other, and we all stand together.

In addition to the various activities on offer at the event on 4 February, Afternoon Tea will be served (suitable for all faiths) and there will be information stalls and displays from community groups, faith groups and statutory agencies showcasing the work that they do in Greater Manchester and providing networking opportunities.

To end the afternoon, we hope that everyone will join together for a #WeStandTogether photo call.

This FREE event is open to the public and people of all faiths or no faith are very welcome to come along. It promises to be a lot of fun!
