Manchester Cathedral Choir comprises up to 20 boys and girls (the choristers) aged 8-13 years, and nine men (the Lay Clerks) who are among the north west’s leading professional singers. The Choir is renowned for its exceptionally high standards of performance and is at the heart of Manchester’s musical heritage.
The choristers sing Choral Evensong four times a week and Sung Eucharist on Sunday mornings as well as various broadcasts, recordings and concerts. To achieve and maintain such high standards, rehearsals are built into the school day.
Being a chorister at Manchester Cathedral is a very special experience; for musically gifted children it is the opportunity of a lifetime.

Come along to a sung service to see and hear the choristers at work. Or bring your child along to Be a Chorister for a Day. These free workshops take place on several Saturdays during the year. Christopher Stokes, Organist and Master of the Choristers, is always pleased to meet potential choristers and their parents. He is happy to hear children sing in a very informal setting, and offer advice on how they might like to proceed.
