For three nights only from Monday 26 October to Wednesday 28 October, Manchester Science Festival will be bringing some of the most popular sci-fi films and series of the 21st century back to the future against the stunning medieval backdrop of the Manchester Cathedral’s medieval quire.
Dig out your leather coat for Monday night’s double bill featuring The Matrix and The Fifth Element. A prize of two free tickets to a music concert goes to the best dressed audience member on the night.
A large audience of E.T. fans of all ages will be waiting for the moment E.T. calls home on Tuesday night with Back to the Future making up the second part of this great double bill. Do not miss the DeLorean car and photo-booth which will take up residence outside the Cathedral all evening. Family tickets are available.
Wednesday is Red Dwarf night with six of the best loved episodes from its 20 year run handpicked by show creator Doug Naylor.
The Very Reverend Rogers Govender, Dean of Manchester said:
“Manchester Cathedral is no stranger to the world of scientific discovery. Back in 1595 Dr John Dee, one of the greatest minds in Europe in the field of maths and science and personal advisor to Queen Elizabeth 1, was Warden at the church. We are delighted to be part of the Manchester Science Festival for the first time in our history and looking forward to celebrating our science heritage next year as Manchester becomes European City of Science 2016.”
Marieke Navin, Director of the Manchester Science Festival, comments:
“We are so thrilled that the Manchester Cathedral has come on board as one of our new partners for this year’s Festival. The Festival embraces interesting and exciting experiences and aims to make science as fun and accessible as possible. So to be able to showcase the very best and thought-provoking ways that scientific ideas have been explored in film and television in this really stunning and unique setting, is so fitting and so very exciting for us.”
