'Communities Are Creative Together' was the theme of this special public event organised by the Challenging Hate Forum (CHF) at Manchester Cathedral in support of Hate Crime Awareness Week 2018. The event took place on Tuesday 6 February 2018.
Renowned artist Stephen Raw spoke about his work in progress entitled Ibrahim/Abraham/Avram which portrays the name of Abraham in three languages. Abraham’s name has been chosen because he is widely considered to be the father of many nations.
A number of organisations hosted information stalls including Ahmadiyya Women’s Group, the Booth Centre, Chrysalis Family Centre, the CPS, FN4M (Faith Network for Manchester), MEND - Muslim Engagement & Development, the Methodist Church, Muslim Jewish Forum of Greater Manchester, Tell Mama UK, Inner Space, The Albert Kennedy Trust, Movement for Justice & Reconciliation, the British Transport Police and many more.
The audience were addressed by Councillor Nigel Murphy from Manchester City Council and Chief Inspector Umer Khan gave the latest hate crime statistics from Greater Manchester Police. The Together in Song Gospel Choir provided entertainment and Sam Illingworth led an interactive poetry workshop on the theme of hate crime.
This event was supported with a grant from Manchester City Council.
