This year marks 25 years of Manchester Pride with the annual Big Weekend taking place from Friday 28 to Monday 31 August. The theme for the Manchester Pride Parade is Devotion. Manchester Cathedral is devoted to being a welcoming, inclusive Cathedral for all who visit and to celebrating and embracing diversity in the City of Manchester. In recent years we have developed strong links with the LGBT community. A bi-annual LGBT celebration is hosted at Manchester Cathedral, the most recent service ‘OUT! At the Cathedral’ took place in October 2014. We also welcomed visitors to the Sparkle 10 celebrations to the Sunday morning service.

During the Big Weekend, Manchester Cathedral will show its support to Manchester’s LGBT community by flying the rainbow flag from the Cathedral Tower.

The Very Reverend Rogers Govender, Dean of Manchester said:

I am pleased to support the LGBT community on their special 25th anniversary. As a Cathedral that takes inclusivity seriously we extend our warm good wishes to LGBT and wish them well in the years ahead. In flying the Rainbow flag at the Cathedral we express our solidarity and prayers. May the theme of Devotion deepen our love for God who loves all people and affirms our common humanity!”
