When you think of a 600-year-old cathedral you may not associate such a traditional community hub with exciting food and drink but Manchester Cathedral is about to change that.
A MasterChef quarter-finalist is taking over the food and drink offering at Manchester Cathedral.
Chris Hale, who wowed the judges on the popular BBC Cooking contest, is taking over the Cathedral cafe with a pop-up coffee shop called Altered. He will also be running a series of foodie offerings inside the Cathedral itself for special events.
Mr Hale, who started Pop Up North catering company following his success of MasterChef in 2016, said: “I am really pleased to partner with Manchester Cathedral, such an iconic building and I can’t wait to serve people of Manchester with high quality food and drink.
“We’ll be serving speciality coffee, locally blended loose leaf teas and freshly made food using the best locally sourced produce.”
Altered pop-up cafe will also be selling honey sourced from the Hives at the Cathedral as well as a selection of produce from Manchester-based traders.
The Dean of Manchester Cathedral, said:
“We are excited to welcome Chris to Manchester Cathedral, his first venture in the area.
“It’s great to bring an independent brand to the Cathedral, adding to the value to this part of Manchester City Centre and its growth over the past few years.
“We’re delighted that the pop-up will also be contributing to our mission to help the people of Greater Manchester.”
Altered is open from 23rd November 2019 until 30th March 2020 in the Cathedral precinct.
