A Healing through Weaving Exhibition at Manchester Cathedral from 15 February – 13 March 2020

“Tear and Repair” saw the collaboration of Textile Artist Nicola Moody with “Azalea” a Luton based Christian charity that works with women caught in commercial sexual exploitation.’ (www.azalea.org.uk)

The project started with a series of textile workshops, participants were then invited to share part or all of their personal narrative. Many textile techniques can be used to act as metaphors for different experiences and emotions. Frayed edges, knots, holes, loose ends and tension are just some of the elements that were present in the stories and are literally present in the five woven artworks that Nicola Moody created in response to each woman’s journey.

“Tear and Repair” is touring 10 cathedrals in 2020. The woven hangings suspended on copper frames are accompanied by three photo books and a film to provide additional information. Alongside the exhibition is a community weave for visitors to have a go at weaving for themselves.
