The Cathedral clergy were joined by David Allinson, Centre Director of Manchester Arndale, for a unique initiative to shine the shoes of the public on Maundy Thursday. Although the initiative will allow the public some ‘sole’ searching and may also result in helping the public ‘heal’ their everyday worries by talking to The Dean, the quirky idea has a serious message aiming to emulate Jesus washing the feet of his followers 2000 years ago and the subsequent tradition of the clergy washing parishioners feet on the Thursday before Easter for centuries.
