Performances at 12.30pm and 1.30pm

Performers: Andrew Ritchie and Daisy Black

The Manchester Blitz is one of eight mini dramas from the Voices from the Past series at Manchester Cathedral, bringing to life some of the monumental characters and events that have forged its history over the last 600 years.

It is 22 December 1940. Manchester is preparing for its second wartime Christmas. Homemade decorations hang in the windows of the city’s terraces, Cinderella is at the Opera House and Father Christmas can be found on the third floor of Lewis’s. Despite the rationing there are turkeys to be had, lawyers in the Woolsack and carols in the air.
Then, the sirens sound and the first of more than 1000 incendiary bombs falls from the sky.

How did the city of Manchester and its cathedral respond to one of the most harrowing nights in its history? Come along to one of the two performances taking place this Saturday in the magnificent medieval setting of Manchester Cathedral, with the stunning Fire Window as the backdrop to the drama.

Tickets are £3- available online Opens in new window or at the Cathedral before each performance.
