The passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

The Dean and Chapter express our deep sorrow over the news of Her Majesty The Queen’s death.

Queen Elizabeth II is an international icon of steadfast faith and humble, servant leadership. As a follower of Jesus, she was a person of deep faith in God and inspired the faith of millions in this country and around the world.

We mourn with the Royal Family on this sad loss. Her legacy is great and she will be remembered with love and affection always. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

Sunday 18 September 

A Requiem Mass giving thanks for the life of The Queen will take place at 10.30am.

A Civic Service of Thanksgiving will take place at 2.30pm. A tribute will be paid by Bishop of Manchester David Walker. All are welcome to attend.

Monday 19 September

Members of the public are invited to watch a live stream of the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on large screens in Manchester Cathedral. The funeral will begin at 11am and the Cathedral will be begin streaming coverage of the build up from 8am.

Manchester Cathedral’s bells will also ring out before and after the funeral service. 

Our regular services will continue to take place but all other events have been cancelled until after the state funeral as we observe this period of national mourning.
