The UK will commemorate the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme this year

The public are invited to participate in a National Commemoration of the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme in Manchester on Friday 1 July.

Manchester will host a parade of military and home front organisations, a Somme Remembrance service at Manchester Cathedral, and a heritage experience and evening concert at Heaton Park.

A Somme Remembrance service will be held at Manchester Cathedral at 3pm. Entry to the service is by invitation only. The service will be shown live on big screens in the public areas nearby.

There will also be a free concert at Heaton Park at 7.30pm featuring a national children’s choir, film, dance and Manchester’s acclaimed Hallé Orchestra. The public is invited to sign up for free tickets to the evening concert, which is suitable for all age groups. Tickets can be booked at www.quaytickets.com/sommeheatonpark.
