Manchester Cathedral is delighted to announce the appointment of the Reverend Grace Thomas as Minor Canon (Missioner).
Dean Rogers Govender said: “We are thrilled to welcome Grace to our clergy team. I know Manchester Cathedral and its congregation will be enriched by the passion and strengths she will bring, just as Grace herself will flourish during this next part of her spiritual journey.”
Revd Grace, currently Incumbent of the Benefice of Clifton, has particular interests in Pastoral Theology, bridge building between faith and secular realms, pastoral responses to the Climate Emergency and issues regarding inclusion and diversity in faith communities. Before being ordained as an Anglican Priest, she was an NHS nurse, working in emergency medicine, women’s health and research.
Bishop of Manchester, The Right Reverend David Walker said: “I am delighted that Grace will be joining the Cathedral team, initially as Minor Canon. This new role will enhance her ability to bring both missional strength and theological depth to the life of our Cathedral Church and our Diocese.”
Revd Grace will also continue to hold her role as Environmental Officer at the Diocese of Manchester.
Speaking on her appointment, Rev Grace said: “After a time of prayerful discernment, I believe that God has called me to this new role and I am very much looking forward to be working with the Dean and Chapter of the Cathedral. Manchester Cathedral has long been a place of prayer, worship, faithful inclusion and innovation and I am excited to see how together we can continue to show the wonderful Good News of Jesus in the city centre and beyond.”
The date of Revd Grace’s licensing as Minor Canon (Missioner) at Manchester Cathedral will be announced in due course.
