Welcome to Gary Hulme

Gary is a self-employed consultant who has been contracted to advise and assist the Dean and Chapter on chorister recruitment.

Gary is an Organist and Music Teacher by profession (he holds the ARCO diploma). He has recently taken early retirement from the position of Director of Music at The Oldham Hulme Grammar School, having taught academic music there for 31 years. He is Organist and Choirmaster at Prestwich Parish Church (St. Mary the Virgin), having been first appointed to that post in 1984.

Gary is married to Martha, a Violin Teacher with Oldham LEA, has two musician sons, James (23) an Oboist and post-grad student at the RAM, and Ben (20) a French Horn undergrad student at the RAM (also an organist) – both boys attended Chethams prior to music college.

Gary is a Mancunian born and bred, and a great supporter of the Cathedral's music since the days of Derrick Cantrell.

Gary says: “I very much look forward to my work as Chorister Recruitment Consultant, working with Chris Stokes and Geoff Woollatt.”

Gary will be with us until the end of the year.
